Other reasons
The primary reason for using Math Talk is to help our students develop a deep understanding of math concepts, but that isn't the only reason. Below are a couple other reasons for using this strategy in your classroom.
Student Engagement
Using Math Talk is a student-centered teaching approach. Students have to actively participate and engage in the classroom discussion. Additionally, they have to listen not only to their teacher, but also to their classmates as they interact with each other.
Communication and Social Skills
Students have the opportunity to develop communication and social skills when you using Math Talk. They have to speak clearly, they have to listen carefully, and they have to develop appropriate social skills as they might agree or disagree with their classmates.
